Unlocking Communication Potential After Graduation: Speech Pathology for Young Adults with Disabilities

This project is aimed at supporting young adults with disabilities in Athens-Clarke County by raising awareness and providing essential speech-language pathology services. Through educational materials, free screenings, and a dedicated community workshop, they will work to empower these individuals, leading to improved communication, well-being, and community support.

Three Impacts:

  1. Increase community awareness of this specific population through a community workshop, providing speech-language services information and disseminating educational materials both in-person and remotely.

  2. Provide no-cost speech and language screenings to Athens-Clarke County's adult community with disabilities.

  3. Connect community members with valuable local resources and support services tailored to the unique needs of adults with disabilities, fostering a network of adult care within the community.

Safeguarding and Fostering Empowerment (SAFE) for People who Stutter

The project addresses the unique challenges faced by people who stutter due to stereotypes which result in increased vulnerability, especially in high-intensity situations such as interactions with law enforcement. Project SAFE will develop a vehicle decal and visor card for a person who stutters to use in interactions with law enforcement officers. The project also will provide training  at enforcement agencies and work to empower persons who stutter to navigate high-risk situations with confidence.

Three Impacts:

  1.  Increase awareness and understanding of stuttering and people who stutter.

  2. Empower people who stutter to navigate high-risk situations with more confidence.

  3. Foster a safer, more inclusive, and supportive community for people who stutter.
